When I saw 90 Day Fiance pop up on Hulu I knew I had to watch it. The show follows four couples and their journey to get married in ninety days. The catch: if they don’t they have to go back to their home country. In this season each woman is here on a K1 visa, known as a fiancé visa. A K1 visa grants each couples three months to wed. After their marriage each couple can start the process to sponsor their significant other for a green card.
This series reminded me so much of my time being engaged to Danny and our marriage to each other. Danny and I love each other with all our hearts and we were so excited to finally be husband and wife. Applying for Danny’s green card was something we did because of our marriage and not the other way around. It is unfortunate some people do take advantage of a marriage based green card to gain residency in the United States. It’s sad fact but one I don’t like to focus on because there so many other happy stories like mine and those shown on 90 Day Fiancé.
All the couples on the show were my favorite in some way or another. I found myself relating to each couple’s storyline at some point or another.
Kirlyam and Alan
Alan met Kirlyam when he was a missionary in Brazil. First of all, Kirlyam is such a beautiful person inside and out! She comes from humble beginnings and demonstrates how sweet and caring she is to Alan’s family. Even when she is homesick I never watched her complain about it. Alan and his family are so welcoming and considerate, which is unlike many of the other couples. I felt like Alan could be a little insecure at times but I could tell how much he cares about Kirlyam. Even though Alan may have felt jealous due to her blossoming modeling career, he puts his feelings aside because he realizes Kirlyam really enjoys what she does.
Russ and Paola
This is one of the funniest couples on the show! Paola’s personality just shines through the screen. Russ met Paola while he was in Colombia at a party and he says he fell in love with her the first time they talked. Aw! Paola is actually from a town in Colombia that Danny’s family is from so it was interesting to see how he would react to Paola. She may come across as superficial to some (she loves her makeup, shoes, and clothes!) but I could see how down to earth and how open she was talking to Russ’ friends and family.
Mike and Aziza
These two made me so nervous in the beginning. Scott and Keli, Mike’s two friends, really echoed my worries that maybe this marriage might be a scam. During the first few episodes I felt their relationship seemed forced and awkward at times. I felt bad for Aziza a few times when she was in situations that acted on her insecurities. I truly felt like all of Mike’s friends and family were against her the entire time. Mike’s mom was mean to her to at the bachelorette party, telling her that she was going to marry Mike only to poison them all afterwards. She even asked her why she couldn’t find a guy in Russia. I don’t know if that scene was staged but I was horrified. I thought their relationship was stronger towards the end. I was happy to see that Aziza and Mike’s family were getting along, too.
Louis and Aya
Louis and Aya are both down to earth and humble people. Louis is a great father who cares and loves deeply for his two children from a previous marriage. He explains in the show that it absolutely matters to him how the children react to Aya and if she treats them well. Aya is a sweetheart for putting up with the grilling she receives from Louis’ ex wife. I don’t know who in their right mind would ask another a woman if she uses birth control, especially her husband’s new fiancé! She even asked her if they were planning to have children because she didn’t want Louis to have more kids. I had to laugh at that point because I couldn’t even believe if that was real or not.
Have any of you ever watched 90 Day Fiancé? Until next time!
